Indie music conventions

In this mood board you can see the sub-genres of Indie music.On the left hand side, you can see the indie rock element of music and on the ride hand side, alternative rock. 

Conventions of Indie rock-

• Predominately male artists and bands
• 'Bad boy' personas and constructed images of artists
• Old school rock and roll features 
• Black and white elements to images and text- relates to old style rock and roll
• References to smoking, drinking and drugs 
• Woman are sexualised
• Typography of magazines uses sans serif fonts
• References to yellow and red
• Images use low key lighting

Conventions of Altenative rock-

• Predominately female artists and bands
• Unique and iconic personas 
• Figures and artists appear mysterious and edgy 
• Vintage and classic style
• References to naturality
• Images use high key lighting
• References to art and culture 
• Links to pastel colouring e.g. pink, blue, lilac
